Itazura na Kiss
Okay so first real post 
For this very first page i want to talk about an anime i recently discovered and who instantly entered my top 5.
Like the title say it’s Itazura na Kiss, a romantic comedy released in 2008.
Initially it seemed i was in front of a classical school romance between a girl an a boy opposed in every possible way.
And that schema was continuous for half episodes but i will be back on that later.
Synopsis
Story begin when Aihara Kotoka, young student with difficulties enter college.
At the opening ceremony she fell instantly in love with Irie Naoki, the most famous boy among ladies for his presence and intelligence.
After two years of a secret idolatrous and phantasms she decide to reveal her feelings to him.
But she discover that the idea she had of him is completely wrong, he think highly of himself and consider her to be inferior as a person due to her low grades.
He coldly decline her love letter with so much dispraise that all the school begin to mock her.
Our heroes
As she is crushed by this rejection, her house is destroyed by an earthquake the same evening. Kotoko have no choice but live in her father’s friend house and his family … who’s Irie Naoki’s family !
So she’s forced to live with the men she love and who rejected her barely hours ago…
Impressions
At the beginning i thought the whole series would take place at school and the house where they both live.
They would live many adventures, getting closer and closer and finally finish as a couple.
That’s how it begins of course. Naoki is very mean to Kotoko, take every chance he has to despise Kotoko’s low grades and clumsiness.
Even Naoki’s brother harass Kotoko every time he want.
But whatever they do, she can’t stop to love him and time after time Naoki start to have feelings for her. Her presence warm his atmosphere because of her kindness and determination. He have a little “random” parameter in his perfect, calculated life of number one student.

The series radically changes from what i’m used to after past half the episodes. Usually we never know what happen after the main couple is formed.
But here we’re only at the middle when it occur !
We follows our characters in University, their job, marriage and beyond !!
I don’t want to tell you too much about it as i don’t want to ruin your pleasure but this series ‘s really apart.

Scenario : 8/10 – It’s very rare that a series goes beyond the original environment of which it begin originally. That’s why i’m generous.
Fun : 7/10 – Kotoko is funny because she’s so clumsy and often ridiculously in love with Naoki. Naoki’s mom is also kind of crazy about having a girl at home.
Graphics : 6/10 – Chara-design is ok for the most part but sometimes i was disappointed, mostly faces that looked weird. I also think the designer was replaced around the middle.
Ending : 9/10 – Yeah i think it’s important to have a good ending. When you see the last second of the last episode, i don’t want to feel frustration. For Itazura, it’s perfect. There’s even two bonus episodes to complete the end. Great !
Total : 8.5/10 – A very very very good series, could have been the best ever if drawing was constant and more accurate.
But even like this it score in my top 5 romantic anime without problems.
It’s a must see !!

BTW, I like that you have ‘fun’ category in your scoring system since entertainment is what we all look for. But I also wonder if the anime with dark and depressive tone would lose points in this category?

Interesting remark, since it’s the very beginning of my blog i have to setup a correct way to score what i test. It will take time to find a perfect system.
I think i will use an “open” category that will change according to what kind of anime i review.
For a dark and depressive tone i may use something else then “Fun” like “Feelings”, i don’t know yet
Well if you look at the art of the manga compared to the anime, you will see where their inspiration came from for how it looks and how it is a big improvement over the art of the manga x)
Anyway, I actually didn’t love the series as much as you seem to have, but I did like the aspect that it really is the “classic love story”.
I also agree with Canne about the “fun” category since, at least for me, the entertainment value is really what is important in the long run for a show to keep me watching.

Maybe i seemed too harsh about the graphics. Most of the time i liked it but clearly it’s not the best this anime has to offer.

Yeah i’m the kind of person that sometimes absolutely need to watch tons of romantic stuffs. I don’t know why but in films or series i’m not so attracted by romance but in animes …. good lord i’m huuuuuge fan.

This sounds like a good anime to watch. Thank you for posting this. Probably, I should try watching this with my wife. She doesn’t really watch anime, except for K-On. Maybe, she’ll appreciate this as well.
