First of all i’ll talk a bit about a software i found and tried yesterday.
I always watched animes, dvd and everything directly on my computer first of all because my television was so old my computer screen was far better and also because i didn’t had any devices capable of reading video files.
But all changes proximately 3 month ago when i bought a new Flat Television with all funky input and a PS3.
I won’t use it for regular television (the wire is not even plugged in so no channel available) so only gaming.
I thought about it yesterday, oh my but maybe i can use the ps3 to watch animes on my brand new flashy television ! (yeah sorry i’m a bit slow when it comes to such matter…)
I was searching for an easy way of doing this when i discovered : PS3 Media Server !
How it works ? Soooooooooo easy, you just have to start it and voila 
If your PS3 is available on the network it will be recognized automatically. Just browse on your PS3 the media server and all your computer hard drives is available for browsing.
If the video you want to see is not natively supported by the platform, the software will automatically transcode it flawlessly.
I was truly amazed and even a HD mkv video with subtitle show up in a matter of second.
I warmly recommend it to everyone !!!

Also a new gathering i pre-ordered yesterday. It’s the Elf Princess !
First time i saw her it was sold out and i cried from the bottom of my heart. As you may know about myself is that i looooove princesses and stuff, moreover if it’s an elf … i’m loosing any sense of reality.
Therefore i was more than happy so see it was possible to pre-order her again !!!!
Hm nice idea. I would do it with my PS3 too.
But my PC is connected with my HDTV as an second monitor. That’s why I’m using it to watch Anime from years from the bed.
I can remember to sit in front of the TV to watch Animes. It was horrible when you watched more than 3 episodes.

I think this program also work with an xbox but i couldn’t try myself.
well I don’t have PS3 I spent my money on figures and a digital camera last year T_T but I am not planning to have game console too enough with playing game and hate RPG game

It’s just i’ve found a software running on mac (very important to me) who let me play videos fetch from my computer directly to my ps3 easily. 
I’ll use my living room a bit more now. Maybe what i said here wasn’t clear enough and it can be misunderstood. Sorry if that’s the case.
What i hate about xbox it’s the annoying noise it emit, my best friend have one and it’s horrible.
The elf is from the ORI project on E2046 so it’s not from a particular series. It remind me elves in Lineage II though.

Yes, the 360 is VERY noisy. I swear, it has like a blender for a fan. Especially for me, since my room/flat is usually dead quiet as I'm the only guy in it ^^;

I really don’t know anything about the “real” blur. I thought about ages for a minute and i realized that Isaac was probably older.
But yeah after days if thinking i couldn’t find a more appropriate character so … i go for it ^^
Way to go! Now you can watch even blue-ray with your PS3. PS3 is superior (not RROD (red-ring-of-death) issue) but I’m not a Sony supporter. I have an x360, transferring files from computer to x360 has been made easier with Microsoft.
Anyway, it’s good to see that you can enjoy Anime on better display

I’m definitely not a sony supporter, i think their product are way to expensive. I refused to buy a PS3 only for it’s price.
But they released the “light” version of it with a price lowered by 100euros and it sounded very attractive.
An xbox would be a problem since i’m on Mac OS looool, that’s why this software is a messiah since it runs on every platform.
Oh yeah it’s cool, i watched the last 2 film of Kara no Kyoukai yesterday. It was amazing

Yeah, I tried using the media server for my anime watching (just got a PS3 too – email me your PSN or something) and for some reason it’s like watching it with a really old computer that can’t handle MKV’s well. I played about 40 minutes of a Top Gear AVI and after that it became glitchy…
Is it the PS3? The Wireless Router? Or my laptop?

Mmmm as far as i know it need a good computer to transcode the video and rapid network connection between the computer and the PS3.
I don’t use wifi since i don’t like this technology but i suggest you to try with a cabled connection just to see if it’s change anything.
Wireless are not very efficient when used for constant data transfers.
Oh, well, I guess that rules out online play then…I really need friends with PS3, I have like two to play GTA IV with, kinda sucks.
Hm, the best computer in my house is my laptop and that’s the problem…
The data transfer rate shouldn’t the problem (It’s over 100mbps over wifi), so me thinks it’s the laptop.
Thanks anyway! Maybe I’ll just connect the laptop to the TV.

Anyway…
I don’t have a ps3, but I DO have a wii. I can play anime on my wii via homebrew, mplayer, and a USB hard drive – but the processor is so weak that it cannot get a good FPS on playback. That and the wii dosen’t output to HD anyway. (although many games like brawl render in full 1080dpi, so weird) Also, the tv the wii is connected to is 15 years old.
Great… Now I am depressed…
I didn’t know you could play videos on a Wii. My previous TV was also an antiquity lol, it was so old, big and crappy i stared at it every time i got on my living room
Ohhhh nooo don’t be depressed. A flat TV screen is not essential at all, it’s just a small bonus
that is sooo awesome! i wish i had a PS3 or a Flat screen TV at that XD lol but my 22′ LCD is not so bad. enjoy your animes on the big screen!

I’ve been using PS3 Media Server for a year now, and it is definitely sweet! If you have enough bandwidth, you can get true HD quality output.
What it is doing is transcoding it on your PC (IE, converting it into a video format the PS3 supports on-the-fly) and streaming it to your PS3. If your PC isn’t powerful enough, then it will chug.
The problem with this is it becomes difficult to fast forward or rewind.

My computer is powerful enough so i don’t have delays longer than 5 sec.
Fast forward and rewind are slow yes but that’s bearable.
I bought Elf Ranger because the Princess was sold out in the first place lol
I don’t mind having them both :p
I already have a couple of ways of watching video from my laptop on my TV (direct cable for HD and mkv or stream to my 360 for others) but this looks like it could replace them both, which would be convenient. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for mentioning it!
