Random picture ^^

Since blogging is a complete new world to me there’s several things happening to me i would never be aware of before.
I was collecting figure, watching animes and reading mangas for a long time before my blog started.

But the websites i visited according to those hobbies were very limited in numbers and i wouldn’t never post anything on them or almost anything.
I didn’t felt the need to talk to other people visiting those website mainly because there was impersonal and didn’t belong to one person.
The blogosphere was completely unknown to me.

But now that i’m a part of it i had to push myself forward to visit those blogs. After all i quickly discovered that most of the time readers also have their own blog and so the best way for me to “advertise” myself was to visit those blogs and leave a comment on them.

And then i started to search blogs about animes and figures either in French or English.
What was most surprising is that i felt that almost everybody knew each other and many times a part of the Blogroll i checked contained several entries i already seen several times.
Which lead me to think that the blogosphere is actually an amount of people who know each other and communicate about their passions using blogs. It’s like an decentralized network who live and grow by itself, naturally.

This was an enormous surprise to me really :)

Now i closely follow 28 blogs i choose based on many criteria i’ll keep to myself.
I also discovered how hard it could be to read and comments on every blogs i follow and how embarrassed i feel sometimes because i’m late.
You know when i read a post, i read it completely and if i want to answer i do a complete answer as possible.
If i don’t answer it’s often because i don’t know what to say or because it don’t interest me (it happens)
But those takes times and i also have to think about adding contents to my own blog and, of course, answering my own comments. This is important since it’s the major connection i have with my readers.

For now i managed to read everything and answer to all the posts i wanted to answer but i wonder if that’s the case for you as well ?

So what’s your daily blogs job ? Do you check rss feeds every morning / evening ?
How many blogs are your actively following ?

Tell me everything, no judgement here ;-)

Haha well you have to be the editor, promoting, photographer, designer …lots of roles for a blog to work :D I try to read before i start work early in the morning. My work starts around eight and I reach the office about 6.30 am and that is when i’ll reply to comments or catch up on other people post!! Active blogs wise, a good 40 plus or so. And a second round of replys and commenting in the evening!

There are times I have no idea on the background story of figures or character (gomen i mainly know mecha stuff!!) but I do appreciate the photography aspect :D at least I can comment on that. But as for subject matter that I can’t really relate to or its too complex i’ll probably just read the post and skip commenting!!

I realize now how many aspect is involved to maintain a blog.
I could never go early in the morning to my job and do some blogger stuffs. I love to sleep way to much.
Well i try to do some on my launch break but it’s not always possible.

For now i don’t add blogs to my follow list (sorry !!!) because i don’t want to neglect the blogs i’m currently following.

      Hard hard indeed.

When I started to follow other blogs, I had trouble keeping up with all of the posts so I downloaded an RSS reader and subscribed to all of their feeds. I have two monitors and I keep the RSS reader open on one of them all the time. This way, whenever I’m on the computer I will know whenever someone has made a new blog post.

As for finding time to write on my own blog, I usually leave it all to the weekend. I’ll write a few posts on Saturday or Sunday and then post one every few days so they’re spaced out a bit.

      Very useful to me ^^

I could never write posts like you do because writing is a matter of feeling to me and feeling is not something i can control.
Generally i have an idea for a post while doing something else and i start to write rapidly after having the idea.
The whole process of adding a new post come in one straight line to me.

  4. Ningyo says:

Thanks for wording that for me, that’s exactly it.
Nowadays the thought’s been crossing my mind; ‘this blogging stuff really takes a long time to settle huh’, but I never put it into perspective. It is like a job, with how much time we spend writing posts and going about people’s sites. The blogosphere is a machine that will eternally perpetuate without an individual. Everyone gets on with their blogs, whether or not you’re watching. The blogosphere’s a microcosm, and I kind of feel sad about that. Oh well, it’s not too bad. I do enjoy myself.

I don’t spend too much time in it everyday or else I wouldn’t be able to do anything else, but I try to get all my rounds done on a day I post. After posting I’m already in the blog-work mood, so.

    • Katsura-chan says:

I guess you could have putted this thought in a much more detailed and sophisticated way than me :D I would’ve loved to read it anyway.
I use to say even if a register on a social network (like Facebook) i stop using it after few weeks and it’s true.
Not that i don’t like social network but they seem a bit pointless to me.
It’s a bit of a paradox since my blog is my way of registering in the blogger social network :D
But still i don’t feel forced to be a part of it and i’m free to built it in my own ways rather than using the tools rigidly offered to me.

Blogging is a my way of socializing on internet, i guess.

  5. softz says:

Hmm… for me, I guess I’ll try to follow as closely as possible. But due to the nature of my job, sometimes, I can get too busy and didn’t even have the chance to update my blog, reply comments (though I try to do it always) and let alone leaving comments on other blogs. But I do try to make an effort by stealing some time from my work and also during wee hours (that’s why I have panda eyes but mostly due to work). I could even work for 28 hours without sleep during crunch time. As I’m not required to go on business trip lately, I can spare a bit more time on the internet. ;)

It happened to me to work for more than 30 hours straight but not recently, at least not since i started this blog.
What i absolutely don’t do is to reduce sleeping time to catch up with posts to read and comments to leave.
I’m a useless larva when i lack of sleep and it’s very uncomfortable.
Well sometimes i do but only when i don’t want to stop playing a cool game :D

    http://anime3r.blogspot.com/2009/10/phase.html

Hmm… Ok, Maybe you are not at The Phase yet. But it sounded similar. :p
That moment when you feel that blogging becomes somewhat of a chore.

“I also discovered how hard it could be to read and comments on every blogs i follow and how embarrassed i feel sometimes because i’m late.”

That’s why I like to keep my blogroll links low. According to the number of blogs I can manage to follow. I don’t go around the blogosphere everyday too. Which limits the numbers of blog I follow even more.

As for being late, I actually enjoy reading and commenting on late posts. Not to sound like a pimp, but I enjoy the one to one interaction after all the other commentators have said what they want to say.

And sometimes, I’m just busy. Or Lazy. Lol.

“If i don’t answer it’s often because i don’t know what to say or because it don’t interest me ”

I try and would prefer to avoid spam-like posts like “Wow… Nice read!” “Cool picture!” etc. etc. But sometimes I just want to let the writer to know that it indeed is a nice post and I’ve actually have nothing else to say. Lol.

This trait of mine becomes especially obvious with high traffic sites. I’ve got this stupid thing where if I post things like “Great post!” in a high traffic site, I’d just feel like I’m trying to cash in on the traffic hits. My stupid man-pride crap doesn’t sit well with that. Pffftt…

For now i think my blog list is the maximum i can follow and i mean “follow” according to my own standards.
Which saddens me a bit because i often come around new blogs who seem very interesting to me but …. have to limit myself.

I’m not old enough to feel the “comment on late post” sensation but i guess it can be cool :)
Myself when i’m visiting an old post i get intimidated by all the comments already there … i know it sounds stupid but i just can’t post anything.

And yeah i also try to avoid short and meaningless comment like those you describe. If you see me doing such a post, send me an email and tell me i’m an idiot :)

Lol yeah it sounds like a rant but why don’t you use this to write a next post of yours :D

it is almost like a full time job just to keep track, let alone creating content for your own blog! if i were to get a job and be away from the PC for 8hr+ a day, i would never be able to stay up to date or be active T_T so im enjoying the fun now while i still can Lol :D

  8. Steve says:

It doesn’t bother me if people are “late” to comment on a post. Some people treat their blog as a fast-paced news site where things become “old” rather quickly, but I try to make everything I post worth reading. If someone posts a comment on an older post, I’m just glad that they’ve actually looked around to find it. I think that, for most good blogs, it’s never too late to leave a comment.

I agree with you that leaving comments on lots of blogs is a great way to advertise your own, and I’ve always appreciated that you leave meaningful comments. I’ve had a fair few people comment on my blog with something very simple, that clearly has no purpose other than to create a little link to their own site. With some of my posts I hope to inspire some sort of discussion, but even so I would rather get less comments from people who have actually read my posts than lots of comments by people just promoting themselves.

I guess what I’m saying is, thank you for actually taking the time to read other peoples’ blogs and helping them grow as well as yourself. Like you say, certain blogospheres can be like a community. Communities only grow when everyone helps each other out, and even though there are plenty of people in the anime blogosphere who are only out to make their own name big, there are plenty of people like you doing things the right way. ^^

I have this phobia of being late so when i get to read an old post i feel embarrassed to leave a comment on it :P It’s a nonsense but i’m filled with weirdness ^^

What i realized when leaving comment around at my beginning is that if the blog creator like your own, you don’t have to ask for a link / banner exchange and almost every blog i follow added me spontaneously and i thanks them.
Well of course you can ask me for a banner exchange, i’ll be delighted to answer if your blog interest me ^^

When i have something to say, most of the time it means i can say a LOT.
You have no idea how much i must limit the length of my comment or it would be as long as the original post. (ME2 for instance ^^)
But yeah when a comment is leaved only to say “Hey come on read my own blog please, i beg you” It’s merely advertising and some commercial behavior.

I honestly tell to everyone here if you spot me doing this one day you have the obligation to send me an email to scold me ^^

I love this community, yeah and i’m proud to be a member ^^
I don’t plan on going big and mainly because i won’t to stay close to every reader as possible. I don’t want to let a comment nonreplied for instance just because i don’t have enough time to do it.
It may turn to be impossible in the future … we’ll see ^^

Have noticed too that many blogs and bloggers somehow often for small clusters of people knowing or following each other more closely which are more loosely interconnected to other clusters. Sort of like a stand-alone complex to use the GITS term. ^^

Keeping up with other people’s blogs and post comments and juggling your own blog can be a challenge, certainly if you have a career, other hobbies or aspects of your anime passion that take up your time as well.

Used to visit the blog pages manually before but Google Reader saved my skin to keep up with most blogs through rss, allows me to filter and decide which entries to read.

Indeed, blogger is almost a full time job for me… as much for writing posts as to visit blogs. And i accumulate delays quickly since my RSS reading list contain more than 40 blogs and three-quarters of them are in english. Which take me even more time since i’m kinda slow when it comes to crite and read in that language. Sometimes i don’t understand everything and i have to so some vocabulary researches.
Because just like you, i like to read the whole post by respect to the person who wrote it.
I would be way too ashamed to leave a 3 words sentence (like “good review”) who at the end has nothing to do about the treated subject.

Blogging is pretty tough I’d say. I had a previous attempt at my older blog and it was tough to consistently produce content what with life and all. So far with my new blog, I’ve been maintaining it at a steady pace and the growth has been pretty encouraging so I hope to continue for as long as I can

    • Katsura-chan says:

I don’t like rss feed. It’s useful only if you are sure an article will interest you otherwise I’ll check it rapidly and not answer it. If I decide to go reading a blog, it’s because I want to read something and answer it.
I spend a lot of time on my own blog to prepare review above all. I really don’t have lots of time. Then, I’ll go to work now ;)

Blogging definitely is a full time job. After I changed gears and put blogging to a lower priority, I’ve freed up a lot of time for myself.

It’s very difficult to blog when a lot of your content consists of spending hours and hours doing art, posting photos, and then writing about it. It’s just so time consuming!

I find it easier to simply write stuff, but well, I don’t know if I really have all that much to write about. :P

Since I’ve eased off the blogging, my RSS feed is accumulating quite the backlog! But still, I feel that it’s necessary for me to read continue to catch up with my friends on the blogging network from time to time, so that I know how they’re doing.

It is very interesting that while we all have our own blogs, it’s a joined community. I like that quite a bit. Some of my blogger friends whom I know in real life, tell me news they’ve heard once in a while about some bloggers here and there, and it’s like “woah really!?” news goes around fast, and it’s interesting to hear how someone from halfway across the world is being talked about.

I’ve found that time consuming-wise, maintaining your blog (commenting replies) and reading friends’ blogs take up a lot of time, but it’s always fun to do!
